Here’s a quick look at the latest Geely Boyue’s full digital instrument clusterThis is what we’ll have to look forward to in Proton’s first SUV model, which is due later this year. As you can see, it starts off with a cool animationand there are specific themes for the Eco, Normal and Sport driving modesBoth Eco and Normal get a separate digital rev meter on the right side, with alarge speedometer in the centre. Switch to Sport however and the whole screenturns red. The large centre dial now shows the rev counter, with a digitalspeedo right in the middle. The Volvo influence is very clear to see here andbefore you ask, yes, there is a temperature gauge. So what do you thinkof this? Do let us know in the comments section. Thanks for watching!
we’re here at the 2018 New York Auto Show with the redesign 2019 NissanAltima now there are big changes for the Altima both outside and inside but we’llstart with what’s changed on the exterior now the most dramaticdifference on the ultimate will we found upfront wear has a second-generationvMotion grille that dips down very low and this kind of is the same look thatyou see on both the new cameras into accord all the automakers seem to begoing very low with their front grilles which makes them look more aggressivenow what this has also done is it has dropped the cowl of the front hood hereso it might be a little bit hard to see from the front but it makes the wholepackage look more aggressive overall now changes to the 2019 Altima are not justskin deep underneath the hood there are also big changes including the additionof all-wheel drive now all-wheel drive will be available on all five of theAltimas trim levels all the way from the S to the top of line platinum which werein now there are also changes in the engine bay for the Altima as well thebase engine is a 2. 5 liter four-cylinder and while that’s the same size as thelast years engine Nissan says that 80% of the parts of the engine are new italso makes a little bit more power this year 188 horsepower and 180 pound feetof torque the other big change for the ultimate will be its optional engine nowlast year was a 3. 5 liter v6 this year they’ve downsized it it’s a turbo 2liter 4 that features what’s called variable compression technology and nowthis is a version of the engine that we first saw in the Infiniti qx50 thatfellow editor extraordinaire Kelsey Mays review and he said that the engine wasfine but it had trouble making power until higher in the RPMs Nissan saysthat they’ve retune the engine for this application the Altima so we’ll see ifthat changes when we get behind the wheelnow both engines will come made it to the same continuously variabletransmission that Nissan offers across much of its lineup one caveat though ifyou want all-wheel drive it will only be available with the base engine nowchange it to the inside of the Altima or not as dramatic as what you see on theoutside but there is one big change that’s worth noting and that is alowering of the front dashboard now what this does is it gives you a little bitmore forward visibility and makes the car feel a little bit more open whatthey’ve also done is they can just taking this touchscreen and moved it upso it still stays in your line of sight when you’re driving which helps safetynow this is an 8 inch multi-touch display and that’s actually standardacross all grades of the Altima also standard is a 7 inch display on theinstrument panel which means that no matter which ultimate you end up withyou’re going to have two pretty good high resolution screens to look at nowthere are things that I very much like and things that I’vehow much don’t like about the 2019 Altimas backseat starting with the goodit has very good legroom and actually there are two USB ports back here forcharging now in the production vehicle that will be one USB a port and one USBC port which is a nice bit of future proofing things that we don’t like it’sa little bit short on Headroom I can actually feel my hair bumping theceiling and then the middle seat there’s actually a prominent hump here so if Iget on this one I’ll end up with a trip to the chiropractor after sitting herethe final exciting addition for the 19 Altima comes on the safety front it willadd profile assist on sv SL and platinum models now this is the third Nissanmodel to feature pro pilot assist and we previously tested the system on the roadand really liked it there it’s a semi autonomous system that helps out instop-and-go traffic or in a single lane highway driving it does a very good jobstuttering the car in the lane and will keep you a safe difference from the carin front of you now for 2019 Pro pilot also adds one more feature on theAltamont and that would be rear braking assist so that will give you frontbraking assist and rear braking assist as well no pricing details get in theAltima but we do know it will go on sale in fall of 2018 now for more news on theAltima and from the 2018 New York Auto Show stay tuned to cars calmyou
Now when Lexus launched in 1989 it only had two models in this lineup and one ofthem was the ES, so the ES has a long history with this company and thebrand-new redesigned 2019 ES is actually the seventh generation of the car and ithas been changed inside and out with a new platform new powertrains and updatedstyling. Now the ES shares the most in common with the Toyota Avalon which wasalso redesigned for 2019 and the two share more than a passing resemblance. They have the same wheelbase, the same overall length and mechanicallyidentical power trains just with some slight tuning differences from the side. Even the two models look fairly identical but the ES does have a fewstyling cues that let you know that it’s a Lexus starting with the grille. Nowmost versions of the ES will come with this spindle grille with verticallyoriented slats. If you opt for an F Sport model you will get a more aggressiveoverall look but also this 3D kind of chainmail mesh grille that looks muchmore aggressive. Now the ES will be offered in gas and hybrid versions andthe gas version of the car will get a 3. 5 liter V6 that makes just over 300horsepower. Now the car that we’re here with is the hybrid and that featureswhat Lexus is calling a fourth generation hybrid system. It has a totalsystem output of 215 horsepower and it’s fuel economy matches the Avalon’s at 44mpg combined. Now acceleration from the gas engine is adequate, I wouldn’t saythat is mind blowing and that actually makes me prefer the hybrid versionbecause you get that big advantage in fuel economy. Now there is one catch toogoing for the ES and that is it’s gonna be front-wheel drive only. Pretty muchall the other competitors offer some sort of all-wheel drive so it’s weirdthat Lexus wouldn’t choose to put some kind of system in the ES and it makes itstick out for the wrong reasons. Now the Lexus ES also benefits from the moveto Toyota’s global architecture, much like the Camry and the Avalon did overthe last couple years. The new platform means that the ES rides better, is lesssloppy in turns and is just overall a better driving experience. Lexus has alsoincreased stability by adding a v-shaped brace right behind the rear seat and itdoes help calm down the rear a little bit especially under braking but whatthat does mean is that you can’t fold down the back seat. There is a smallpass-through for longer cargo but it’s not very big, I wouldn’t be able to fit asnowboard through there so for those of you who like winter sportsyou might have to get a roof rack or something like that for a longer cargo. Like I mentioned before, power from the two powertrains is what I would calladequate. I’m driving the hybrid right now and while it’s not fast, it’s enoughpower for passing and it’s a smooth powertrain that transitions veryseamlessly between gas and electric modes. Now the Lexus ES also benefitsfrom a very quiet cabin and you can make it even quieter still by opting for anultra luxurious package which comes with 19-inch wheels that are designed to bequieter than other wheels. They’ve cut a channel out of the wheel and they saythat helps to mitigate some of the road vibrations and noise and when I drove avehicle with those wheels equipped it was noticeably quieter than the car thatwe drove this morning. Now the 2019 ES also introduces the F Sport version ofthe car and what that has is more aggressive styling stiffer anti-roll barin the front and its own Sport Plus drive mode it also comes with anadaptive variable suspension that Lexus says can firm up the ride to make itmore dynamic in turns. I didn’t necessarily find this to be true I thought thatthe F Sport actually drove pretty similar to the non F Sport models whichmeans that what you’re getting with the F Sport is mostly an appearance packagealong with some sports seats that do have nice bolstering but don’t expectthe F Sport to suddenly become a sports sedan. The ES is pretty quiet andcomfortable most of the time but there is one situation in which that getsbroken up and that’s when you really lean into the throttle on the hybridversion. Now the hybrid models actually come with some specialized sounddeadening which are meant to filter out the higher pitched noises that you getfrom the electric drivetrain however that sound deadening doesn’t do much forthe four-cylinder drone that you get when you really lean into the car likethis. Another thing that’s much improved onthe ES is this new interior and that’s both from materials and a stylingperspective. Now the cabin materials are taking a big leap forward. I would saythis actually feels like a bonafide luxury interior now whereas the previousES felt upmarket but not quite luxurious. The model that we’re sitting in alsocomes with be available twelve point three inch screen which is highresolution and high up on the dash so it’s easy for you to see while driving. Now all of these things on the ES are big improvements over the old model butthere is one key way in which the new ES hasn’t taken a step forward and thatwould be the multimedia system. Now our biggest gripe with the multimedia systemis not actually the screen itself it comes with how you interact with it andthat is through what Lexus calls a remote touch interface and thatbasically means you use a glorified touchpad here in the center console tonavigate the menus and submenus found on the screen. Now using a touchpad and acursor is fine if you’re on your laptop in a coffee shop but not so much ifyou’re driving and you have kids in the back and you have traffic and carsmoving around you, it’s just a lot to take in if you’re driving and it’spretty much impossible to use without looking down at the screen. Lexus did addApple CarPlay on Amazon Alexa integration to the ES however there arecaches to both of those at launch. The car is gonna come out in September butit looks like Apple CarPlay won’t be standard on the car until after October. You can get it on ES models with navigation but if you don’t wantnavigation you won’t be able to get Apple CarPlay until you buy a car thatwas built after October 1st. On the Alexa side, the Amazon app that’srequired by Lexus to use the full Alexa functionality in the car won’t becertified on the App Store until November. However it will be availablefor those who have Android phones so while you might not have Android Autoyou will get to enjoy full Amazon Alexa integration before you’re friends withiPhones. Now this pre-production model that we’re in actually does come withApple CarPlay and we had a chance to play with the system and we think thatit works quite well here. The screen is very wide and Apple CarPlay is actuallyable to fill the whole thing so you get more icons than you do normally on thehome page and we think that it’s actually a good direction for Lexus totake in the future with this system if they want to stick with a touchpadbecause Apple CarPlay uses large icons that are easy to see while the Lexusmenus are smaller and you have to go through more steps to find what you want. Now there’s no question that the 2019 Lexus ES is a massive improvement overthe 2018 version of the car. I think that it’s more stylish, I think that it drivesbetter and I think that the interior is more luxurious. It also has a massivebackseat that can fit two adults comfortably over long voyages and thismakes the ES a great road trip car, much like the 2019 Avalon. Now thecaveat is you’re stuck with that multimedia system. And this is somethingthat we could say about most Lexus products is that without that multimediasystem they would actually be a more compelling buy. For me is it adeal-breaker? It just might be in this car because everything else seems sogood that that sticks out like a sore thumb. Now we’re still waiting onofficial pricing figures for the 2019 ES. All that we can tell you is that itwill start at around $39,000 with hybrid modelscommanding a $3,000 premium on top of the gas versions. Official pricing should come closer the cars on sale date in fall of 2018.
we’re here with the redesign 2019 x4 now this is the second generation of thisvehicle which is based heavily on the redesigned x3 it looks kind of the sameup front but there are some actual big changes in the rear what BMW has done isthey’ve lifted the roofline here which actually pays big dividends inside theBMW x4 used to be a me car not a weak car because if you had friends that hadto sit in the back that are gonna be very unhappy on even short trips BMW hasfixed this by raising the roof on the x4 there’s actually Headroom here so I canfit back here comfortably one more thing they added a largepanoramic moonroof which allows more light in for backseat passengers so youwon’t feel like you’re sitting in a cave now that’s not the only thing that’schanged on the x4 let’s move to the front there are a few new technologiesin here that BMW says give us a preview of what’s to come in the x6 and x7 andthat includes a larger 10. 2 5 inch screen up here in addition to theupdated screen in the center there’s also a new instrument panel as well withsome very nice rings around both the speedometer and the tachometer one finalinnovation on the x4 it’s going to have a multi color head-up display that is 75percent larger than the one in the previous car and BMW says that will bethe largest head-up display in this class no official release date yet forthe redesigned x4 however we do know pricing 30i models will start at justover 51,000 while the m4 TI which we see here will start at just over 61 thousanddollarsyou
The first-generation Subaru XV was considerably successful in the regionand it was undoubtedly the most popular model for Subaru Malaysia. In continuingthe same success story we have before you the second-generation Subaru XVIt’s currently available in two variants starting with the base 2. 0i that’spriced at RM119,000, and the range-topper 2. 0i-P, this one in bright sunshine orangeIt’s priced at RM126,000, making it a full RM9kmore expensive than the top spec HR-V. But wait a minute, is the XVa direct competitor to the HR-V? Well more so in terms of pricing then segmentbecause this car actually rides on top of a C-segment platform, which it shareswith the Impreza. Well I’ll explain the benefits of this in a minute but first Iwant to talk about how it looks. The XV is basically a jacked up version of theImpreza hatchback, sharing the same overall shape, even down to the roofrails and shark fin antenna. Now although it doesn’t look all that differentcompared to its predecessor I actually find new look to be very well executedand the proportions are just spot-on. And between the two new XVs, this is theone you should be really looking at. It gets automatic LED headlights withcornering function, stylish C-shaped LED daytime running lights, headlight washersa bolder hexagonal grille and LED combination tail lamps. This 17-inch dualtone alloy wheels is standard on both variants, but here the tyres are actuallythicker than the ones fitted to the older model. In any case it gets thisrugged plastic cladding that goes around the car and to be honest I kind of fancy thisThere’s an even higher spec variant with Subarus EyeSight safety system, butthat’s only going to come next year. One of the many things I’ve grown fond ofthe XV is just how convenient and easy it is to get in and out of the carRide height is just niceand upon getting in, things just get a whole lot better. I honestly think it’sone of the best-looking and most well-built cabin in its class. The buildquality in this thing is leaps and bounds better than the older model and isconsiderably nicer than the HR-V as well the top portion of the cabin getssmothered in high-quality soft touch plastic and it’s used all the way downto the center tunnel, even to the rear doors. However I can’t help but thinkhaven’t I seen this dashboard before? Anyway I reckon the build quality of theXV is slightly better than the Mazda CX-3 and that really caught me bysurprise. I like the look of this 3 spoke steering wheel – it’s nicely contouredit’s leather wrapped, it has all the controls within reach and it also haspaddle shifters. There’s even contrast stitching to match the theme of theentire cabin. Speaking of theme, the seats which are wrapped in part leather andpart fabric get bright orange stitching as standard. The driver seat is the onlyone that’s electrically adjustable and this is the same for the cheaper variantas well. Unique to this variant though is the carbon-fibre trim that surrounds allfour of the door handles. Check out this super cool secondary multi-info displayInstead of cramming all the driving data into this small space right here, whatSubaru did was move everything, well almost everything, into this 6. 3 inchmultifunction display. Here it gives a multitude of information such as fuelconsumption, all-wheel drive status, pitch angle and even a more detailed trip meterreading, all of which are in real time. The head unit on the other hand leaves alot to be desired I think car manufacturers have to spenda little bit more time and effort to make the infotainment display systemfeel more cohesive, like it belongs with the car. Mazda is a perfect example of thisHere it just feels like they bought somethird-party open-source program and built their own user interface on top of itThe brightness it’s, it’s quite bad. Well it works and serves its purpose butthe compromise is that the whole thing looks very basic and underwhelmingI mean if the whole cabin is so impeccably made then something like this isdefinitely gonna stick out. Just sayingDown here you get the traditional button and dial controls for the air-conSome space to keep your mobile devices while it’s charging, cupholders and a nicecentre armrest with two USB charging ports built in. The old manual handbrakelever is now gone, replaced by this nifty electronic switch. What’s neat is thatyou can charge two devices at the same time and keep most of the cables hiddenwithin the armrest. There are two thoughtfully position openings at eachcorner that let the cables out without causing a mess. Now let’s check out the back seatsAs you can see it’s quite spacious back here and there’s even morelegroom compared to the first generation XV because the wheel base here is longerby 30 millimetres. Notice this hump over here, it’s pretty much the same size asbefore but I don’t mind it. The headroom as well, same as beforeOverall space back here is slightly smaller than the HR-V, butdefinitely way bigger than the CX-3. One downside back here is the lack ofair vents but this is a common problem shared by all the XV’s rivals. In termsof boot accessibility, the opening has been widened by 100 millimetres to makeloading and unloading easier and unfortunately boot space is only up by 5litres to 345 litres, which is not great for a car like this. Just look at howshallow it is with the tonneau cover on. The flipside is you get a spare tyre sothat’s a fair compromise if you ask me. Now let me show you the unique thingabout this handsome crossover. Unlike every other model in its class the XVgets a 2. 0 litre flat-four Boxer engine. The benefit of this is that it sits lowin the car compared to traditional inline-four or V6 engines, so the centre ofgravity is effectively lower. Just look at how low this thing sits. Subaru says thisdirect injection engine is almost entirely new and produces 156 PS and 196 Nmof torque. It’s paired to Subaru’s continuously variabletransmission, otherwise known as Lineartronic and features 7 virtual ratiosThis CVT is also nearly 8 kg lighter than the old unit withrevised gearing to improve fuel efficiency. Now with all that out of theway let’s find out how it drivesThe original Subaru XV was popular for manyreasons particularly because it gave people that rugged SUV look with acommanding driving position and it didn’t look too boring or dowdy as otherrun-of-the-mill SUVs that you could get. It also drove pretty well and had decentlevels of comfort. Well, this new one improves on all that thanks to a newSubaru Global Platform. Apparently body and chassis rigidity isup by 70% and you can really feel this in the corners. There’s less flexion in thechassis when you take corners at higher speeds and it’s inherentlya more stable car to drive. This car is also very beautifully sprung, possiblyexhibiting the best ride quality in its class, by far. Remember what I saidearlier about this being on top of a C-segment platform? One of the keybenefits is that you get a more sophisticated suspension especially inthe rear way it gets a double wishbone suspension instead of a cheaper torsionbeam set up found in the HR-V. This makes it a far better car to driveespecially for rear passengers. With the new engine and transmission Ifind the throttle response to be quicker and the engine is more eager to rev thanthe old one And if you must know this car sprintsfrom zero to 100 in 10. 4 seconds which on its own is 0. 3 secondsquicker than the old one but still slower than HR-Vs 10. 1 second markThe CVT has a step function to mimic a normal automatic gearbox andit’s still one of the better made CVTs out there. However as with allCVTs it lacks the pull factor at full throttleespecially at highway cruising speeds. Generally though performance iscomparable to the HR-V despite weighing over 300 kg more but this islargely due to the size and construction of the car. For city driving afront-wheel drive car is definitely going to make more sense and you savemore fuel in the process. But the XV is permanently driven on all four wheelsand it now features an X-Mode through a button right here for better off roadtraction. If you’re the adventurous type, consider this a bonus. On the subject offuel efficiency expect this car to perform slightly better than the old onealthough not by much. With a full tank of 63 liters I managed to squeeze about 600 kmof range in mixed driving conditions but this car is not properlyrun in, so it’s not a very good barometer. I’m pretty sure I can do moreif I only I have a little bit more determinationI’ve said it once, but I’ll say it again. I really honestly like this XV but like all cars it has to have someflaws – this gaudy head unit is one of them, it’s one of the biggest, and theother is noise. One part from that CVT which is a very common problem and thesecond is tyre roar. CVT noise is part and parcel and mostcars in this price bracket suffer from the same fate but the factory fittedContinental MC5 tires are just unacceptably noisy. And if you check theunderside of the wheel well there’s only a bit of sound deadening materials usedHonda knows this and has fixed the problemso Subaru if you’re watching this, please do something about itAll-in-all the XV has once again proven to be a worthy contender in the growing subcompactcrossover segment. It’s improved in just about every aspect and despite all thatit’s still competitively priced against its closest rivals. The icing on the cakeis the seven airbags that are standard across the range and there’s also ISOFIXchild anchors in the rear seat to go with the usual set of safety systemsFor those of you who are waiting for the full range of Subaru’s EyeSight safetysystem, well that’s only gonna come sometime next year. For now I’ll be happywith this, just maybe not in this colour, because I’m not flashy like thatThank you for watching. This is Matt, rain or shine, I will see you in the next one
On this episode of The Car Truth Report we look back on a dear departed friend; the ChevroletSS. I’m your host Noor Elahi, thank you for joining us. Fans of rear wheel drive sedans and three pedal enthusiasts alike felt a personal lossrecently as GM discontinued Australian Holden production and by extension the much belovedbut little purchased Chevy SS. The first point we at the Report would like to make is that a rear-wheel drive familysedan with a V8 and stick feels like the most American thing since Budweiser and pork rinds. That kind of flows with the Chevrolet SS – an unapologetically Australian car. After all, Budweiser is now owned by the Belgians, and pork rinds are far more popular in Mexico. Here’s a quick history lesson about the lineage of the Chevrolet SS to help thoseof you who weren’t aware of why these cars are so beloved. The true Grandfather of the current Chevy SS is a car called the BMW E39 M5, one ofthe most adored things to come out of Germany since the Dachshund. The Holden Commodore was designed with the M5 as a benchmark, much like how Cadillacused the BMW 3 series to benchmark their new CTS and ATS lines. At this point it was still just a beautiful German-Australian affair. That was until America got in on the love with the G8 shortly before GM was forced tokill off Pontiac. So we had to wait until 2014, when Chevrolet released their new SS, which was a bit confusingto some, because chevrolet uses SS on like 50 of their other cars to designate the performancemodel. It should be also be noted that when the G8 came out in 2008 it had a sticker price ofabout $30,000 for a V8 model, and when the Chevrolet SS was released it cost north of$48,000. In much the same way the Chevy SS was campaigned heavily in NASCAR, the Holden Commodore featuresprominently in Australia’s version of stock car racing, the V8 Supercar Series. There are a few differences in the series notably, the Aussies keep their stock carsmuch more stock than we do and race on tracks that go up, down, and right as opposed toour unbelievably fast ovals. Here is America’s favorite racing uncle, Daryl Waltrip noting some of the differenceshere:Yup, that man used to routinely go 190 mph inches from the wall at Talladega. This was the crucible from which the Holden Commodore and by extension Chevy SS was cast. So how did a German, American, Australian three-way {Skyline chili slide} leave us somehowunsatisfied? The truth about the Chevrolet SS is that racing cred alone isn’t enough to turn a blue-singlettedbogan into an All-American heartthrob. You see, the Australian version of the LS is called the LT and it has a few noteworthydifferences from its American cousin; the most important of which cylinder deactivation, and the different product codes that make getting parts for it at your local NAPA anexercise in frustration. There is also the small matter of styling. You see, the SS was always meant to be a sleeper. This is one of the few places GM excelled in realizing its goals with the departed Chevymuscle car. They did such a good job, that looking at the car for too long is guaranteed to putyou to sleep, or make you think it is a rental fleet Malibu. Despite the exterior refresh, the SS still had arguably the least exciting styling inthe entire General Motors lineup. Many think the Malibu and Impala look better and that literally hurts my cartoon mouthto say. Couple that with SS’ starting price above $48,000 ensured that it was never to be longfor this world. Despite the Chevy SS’s pitfalls, it still begs the question of whether or not Americansactually want rear wheel drive cars anymore. Matthew McConaughey doesn’t think so, but nobody’s asking him or Lincoln. The Europeans certainly do however. BMW and Mercedes continue to kick domestic backside with their longitudinal engine entries. FCA’s Alfa Romeo Giulia is universally lauded and even comes with three pedals overseas. Heck, even Cadillac is turning it’s back on front wheel drive sedans. So how could the SS and by extension the mid-price stick shift family car have been saved?Well, it wouldn’t have been easy. You see Australia royally botched their automotive industry. When the decision was made by GM to discontinue Holden production in Oz, the average linemanwas bringing home 80 thousand dollaroos per year. {graphic or 50,000 Fosters} The cars were expensive even in Australia, and the addedcost of transport and homologation to American DOT regulations meant the price would onlyever get so low. GM of course knew this. That’s why you didn’t see any clever Chevrolet SS commercials during the Superbowl. Heck, I can’t remember ever seeing a single ad for the car on TV. It was like Mary Barra knew GM had to shed the dead weight of homegrown Holden productionand did everything thing in their power to let the Australian auto industry die on thevine. So there you have it. A lack of advertising, high sticker price, overly reserved styling, and a rarity of partsall swirled together to make for a perfect storm that was always going to sink the greatwhite hope of 4 door tiresmoke. Will we ever see another unicorn like the Chevy SS again?Sadly, the Report doesn’t think it’s very likely. I suppose all we can do is get back in our front wheel drive econoboxes and try our bestto move along. Before we go, we at the Car Truth Report would like you remind you that we are giving awaythis awesome leather jacket once we reach one thousand subscribers. You can get it with or without our totally rad CTR logo. If you choose to get the jacket without our logo, it will hurt our feelings just a littlebit. The winner will be chosen from the comments and you must be a subscriber to win. Thank you so much for joining us for the fifth episode of The Car Truth Report. We want to hear from you! Will there be another rear wheel drive stick shift family sedan sold in the American market? Why didn’t GM sell the UTE in the states?Does Daryl Waltrip get nightmares from that lap around Mount Panorama?Let us know in the comments and don’t forget to like, subscribe, hit the notify bell andsend us money so I can afford to put gas into my rear wheel drive, American stick shiftsedan for one last time. The Car Truth Report has been brought to you by about five beers. Giving me a little more courage since 1997.
now when you think about great big off-road pickup trucks you may notnecessarily think New York City but New York City is where we are and great bigoff-road pickup trucks is what we have here GMC has decided to unveil the 2019Sierra AT4 here in New York City ahead of the New York International Auto Show nowyou didn’t think that Chevrolet was gonna be the only one that had a greatbig off-road pick up in the Silverado trail boss absolutely not GMC has got aversion of it too and it’s a little bit nicer with a little bit more equipmentthan you could get on the Silverado let’s go through it and see exactly whatis the difference the Chevy Silverado when it was introduced earlier this yearwasn’t necessarily everyone’s cup of tea the styling we’ll call it is a littlebit wilder than you see on the Sierra this year is more stately a little bitmore conservative I think it’s frankly the better-looking truck and to turn itinto the AT4 you got a couple of different things that have happenedyou’ve got body coloured grille surround body-colored bumpers front and rear andthen they’ve gone the dark chrome route you’ve got dark chrome color for thegrille you’ve got dark chrome surrounds around the LED fog lamps gloss blackaround the windows and the doors but they’ve also given it a bit of a splashof color you see the front tow hooks those are gloss red so it’s not anentirely blacked-out trim and you can actually get this in a number ofdifferent colors in general mechanically it’s actually fairly similar to theChevrolet Silverado Trail Boston you’ve got a number of the same kind of partsyou’ve got the same two inch lift kit you’ve got the same Rancho monotubeshocks you’ve got 18-inch wheels and tires 18 inches you can get with eitherthe all-terrain tires or you can get them with these the Goodyear Wranglerdura track mud terrain tires or you can opt for a 20-inch wheel and tire but youdon’t want to do that if you’re going off-road necessarily these will grip alot better you’ve got skid plates underneath andyou’ve got a number of other luxury items that kind of differentiate thisthing from the Silverado trail boss one of the bigger differentiating areasbetween this and the Silverado trail boss is the luxury appointments of theInterior you have a standard leather interior on the GMC version you getcloth on the trail boss at the Chevy version this guy’s kalahari and blacktrim you’ve got the embroidery of the AT4 logo on the seats you also have one ortwo options in here that you can’t get on the Chevy such as the optionalheads-up display which unfortunately isn’t on at the moment but it’s amulticolor display and it displays some of the off-road functions like anincline and the steering angle as well thestandard powertrain on the Sierra AT4 is just like the one in the Silverado trailboss its the 5. 3 liter v8 but there are two optional engines for the Sierra youcan get the 3 liter Duramax turbo diesel that’s coming or you can get theupgraded 6. 2 liter v8 as well that’s what this one has now two exclusivepieces that you can’t get on any of the Chevrolets one of them is this multi protailgate it’s got six different positions we’ve seen this already when Iintroduced the truck and it can do any number of different thingsyou’ve got steps you can turn it into a table you can turn it into a loadextender you can actually make it easier to get closer to the bed when you’reloading things the bed itself on this one is optional this is the carbon fiberbed now we’re not entirely sold yet on the durability of this thing it is afairly new concept and we’re really looking forward to testing it ourselvesonce we get our hands on one of these gmc’s later this year it’s going to beintroduced in the fall of 2018 and that’s when you’ll probably be able toget your hands on one down at your local dealership now we don’t have any numbersyet in terms of pricing or even in terms of power or torque from the engines butonce we do you’ll find all of that information on pickup trucks calmyou
