2019 Kia Forte: First Impressions — Cars.com

compact sedans aren’t exactly flying off the shelves but that didn’t keep kiafrom redesigning its entry here with the completely overhauled forte sedan thattakes certain cues from the stinger which is Kia’s new performance sportssedan you see things like a more sculpted hood here a reimagine a ssin atweak of the Kia’s Tiger nose grille indented at the top and the bottom Idon’t know it kind of seems a little busy down lower this is an e X modelit’s a top trim level there’s just a lot going on in terms of trim pieces foglights all of that you get around the side pretty high beltline here check outthis character line that kind of runs all the way over to the tail it makesthe car seem pretty long and it is it’s up about 3. 2 inches kia says versus theoutgoing forte that’s a lot of size in a compact car you come out of the rearhere now you get this tail light strip with a reflector that goes all the wayacross the trunk um kind of keeps it distinctive here but again a lot goingon in terms of just lower trim level pieces kind of pasted on I wish Kia hadkept it a little bit simpler honestly now inside the forte has traded itspredecessors kind of domed routine for a more stacked dashboard here with layersthere’s a screen here that kind of props above the stereo controls whichthemselves seem pretty straightforward here with volume and tuning knobs it’san 8 inch screen and that is standard it also comes standard with apple carplayand android auto which is nice cabin materials seem fairly competitive withrivals like the Toyota Corolla the Honda Civic and under the hood a new 2-literatkinson cycle which is more efficient 4 cylinder engine that mates to acontinuously variable automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual if youdon’t like the CVT kia says it’s done some stuff to kind of mitigate how muchit might seem like it’s droning while you’re accelerating we’ll have to seeall of that closer to it’s on sale date in late summer of 2018 so stay tuned forplenty moreyou
